This is one of the items made at a recent class I taught and will be teaching next Friday and Saturday. When I first saw the A1382 Twinkle Ball, it looked like a peppermint candy to me. As I was looking at the bag sample for class, I saw a train car a train car with peppermint wheels. So then I had to figure out how to make a train engine. This is what I came up with. I tried and tried (with my helpful husband) to photograph the train card and this is the best we managed:
This card uses a notecard scored 2 inches from the bottom of the colored side (so the card is basically used inside out). I used a rectangle of last year's Dewfrost paper to make the "sky" and stamped F1177 Bare Oak in the background with the bird from the end of B1385 Heaven Sings. The engine is moving along on tracks made from a fence punch. (Both sides of strip of paper were punched.) The C1383 Sleek Penguins are driving the train. To make the back of the card stand up, you take a piece of cardstock about 4" x 5-3/8" and score in the middle and fold add a rectangle (about 1-1/2" x 3-3/4") to the back of the folded brace piece (should look like a "T"). The front section needed another brace so I made a "U" shaped piece by folding a piece roughly 1-1/2 x 2 inches with the ends folded up (about 1/2") to make the card stand up.
For the engine I made a template from a 1/4" gridded 5x8 index card. I'll try to attach the template here. I've never done this before, so I hope it works.
Hopefully you will get the template when you click on it. The top of the train has a strip of black card stock 2-3/4" x 1/2". I used a 1/4" corner rounder on two of the edges. The penguins are cut out and placed behind the cut out for the window. Behind the penguins is a piece of vellum that I sponged with Distress Tumbled Glass ink. The engineer's hat is made from a scrap on Cranberry Sicily cardstock. Here's how the wheels and smoke stack were put together:
Lots of circle punches were used as you can see. I just winged this project and want to encourage you to take some time to let your imagination flow and see where it takes you. Have a fun ride on the Peppermint Penguin Express and have a great Sunday!
