When I think of spring, this poem by Robert Frost always comes to mind and my card for this post was inspired by it.
NOTHING GOLD CAN STAY by Robert Frost
Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf's a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.
Materials used (all from Memory Box unless noted otherwise)
- Dill notecard
- Grass Shimmer cardstock
- brown cardstock, The Paper Cut
- Woodgrain pattern cardstock, source unknown
- Squash Distressed Dots cardstock
- green strip ribbon, scrap. source unknown
- E1850 Leafy Branch Globe stamp
- E1711 Circle Word Background stamp (discontinued)
- Hero Arts Cup O' Joe mid-tone ink
- Distress Ink Gathered Twigs, Ranger
- PrismaColor pencil in Spring Green
- circle punches in three sizes--EK Success Fiskars, PaperShapers
- Scotch double-sided tape; Glue Dots, mini
To make the focal image, ink up the Circle Word Background E1711 with Hero Arts Cup O' Joe ink and stamp it on a scrap piece of paper before stamping it on the 3" square of Squash Distressed Dots paper for a softer look. I made this card before checking the on-line catalog and since this stamp is now discontinued, here's a substitution plan if you don't have this stamp in your stash. Punch a circle from a post-it note or scrap paper and discard it, using the frame that is left to mask the 3" square before stamping the words portion of any of the Memory Box collage stamps. G1733 Journey Collage is a good choice.
Using the same Cup O' Joe ink, stamp the Leafy Branch Globe E1850 on top of the word circle background. Add some color to the leaves--I used a PrismaColor Spring Green colored pencil.
Cut a 3 1/4" square from the brown cardstock. Punch out two large circles from the Squash Distressed Dots paper, then two medium and four small circles from the woodgrain pattern paper. Ink the edges of all the Squash Distressed Dots papers with Distress Gathered Twigs ink.
Cut a 4X5 1/4" piece of the Grass Shimmer cardstock. Tie the ribbon around this piece before adhering the other elements. Then secure the whole piece to the Dill notecard.
In spite of a blizzard on the day before the First Day of Spring, I'm in a spring-y mood! There are daffodils in a vase on my table and Peeps on the kitchen counter--both of which are important signs of spring at my house!
Happy Crafting!
