Hello!
Today's card has been made twice - once last night and then again this morning after a tsunami of spilled tea drenched the original. Talk about tragic - I put the card on the table to photograph it, turned to pick up my camera, and knocked over a full glass of tea sitting about 9" away.
I experienced that freaky time-thing that happens when you're in a car wreck and everything seems to be going in slow motion while also happening at 90 mph....
Needless to say, the card was totaled.
Lesson Learned #1: Don't drink and shoot!
Another lesson I learned came as a result of my hurry to remake the card. First, I botched it halfway through because I was hurrying too much, but the real lesson involved sticky stuff. (Wouldn't you know it - me with the glue issues!) I was too heavy-handed with the Stickles and scraped the excess off with my finger, but along with the Stickles came a definite amount of Copic ink! So now my shading and blending are not quite as satisfying as before the Stickles debacle.
Lesson Learned #2: Stickle slowly or suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous ink loss.
(That was for any Hamlet lovers that might be reading this....)
But enough of the agony - onto the ecstasy of card making!
My card today features the Double Fudge paper and the Poinsettia Collage stamp from the new Tinsel collection. (You can see another patterned paper from the Tinsel collection - Crystalline - in the background.) I also have a cool trick to share that my friend Lisa Carroll taught me!
Paper: Memory Box Double Fudge, card stock; Inks: Memento, Ranger Distress (Old Paper), Copics (R22, R24, R29, G20, G24, G29); Stamp: Poinsettia Collage; Other: button, ribbon, pearls, pop-dots, Stickles, Zip brush marker; Tools: Nestability dies, Xacto knife, Tim Holtz sponge ink applicator tool.
Directions:
- Stamp image twice with Memento ink.
- Color Image 1's flower and leaves with Copic markers and cut out.
- Use brush pen to color edges of cut-out pieces, then set pieces aside.
- On Image 2, use Copics to color the flower stem and the outer edges of the flower and leaves.
- Die cut Image 2.
- Without removing the image from the die, use the ink applicator tool to apply Ranger Distress Old Paper to Image 2 (the die will act as a mask). Remove Image 2 from die.
- COOL TRICK!!! Place die - face down - on brown cardstock and cut around its edges with Xacto knife. (This allows you to create a matte for your image that is still smaller than the next biggest nesting die! Cool, huh?)
- Use larger die to cut card base from Double Fudge patterned paper and card back from brown card stock.
- Stack and adhere brown matte and patterned paper.
- Horizontally score the back of brown cardstock about 1.5" from the top. Apply adhesive to the top 1.5" and adhere to back of patterned paper to create the back of your card.
- Position sheer ribbon over "believe" in Image 2 and adhere Image 2 to card.
- Tie bow with ribbon, cut ends and attach with glue dot.
- Adhere the cut-out flower and leaves to Image 2 with pop-dots.
- Adhere button and gems.
- (Optional) Apply Stickles to flower and leaves.
I hope you give this a try - the stamp is a blast to color (I've played with both Copics and colored pencils and both are extremely fun), and it's just the right size for a tag, too!
Have a blessed weekend!
