Oh, my...deer!

I took an incredible class with Penny Bennington (http://pennybennington.blogspot.com/) on Saturday at Your Maine Stamper.  She taught us all about kissing techniques, subtractive and additive, using solid design and detailed stamps.  I had an idea for something I wanted to try so I tucked a few Memory Box stamps into my basics bag.  I've been wondering how to use the newest deer stamp, E1772 Graceful Deer, and figured that maybe stamp kissing would offer some interesting options.

These are my practice stampings:

I inked up E1772 Graceful Deer with ColorBox Chalk in Chestnut Roan and Adirondak Red Pepper.  I then used these uninked stamps B1362 Tendril Print, C992 Bay Flourish, and C1390 Elemental Damask to "kiss" the inked stamp which removed ink and left a nice design element on each stamped image.

Here are two finished cards:

For the card on the left, I inked up E1772 Graceful Deer with Adirondak Red Pepper and used C1390 Elemental Damask to kiss the deer image to remove some ink before stamping on the die cut.  I smudged more Red Pepper ink around the edges, stamped B1808 We Wish in ColorBox Chalk Chestnut Roan, and pop-dotted the image onto a larger die cut after I inked the edges.  Penny scored a second die cut about one inch from the top edge, I added some double-sided tape above the score line and attached it to complete the card.

The second card is done the same way, except that I used C992 Bay Flourish to kiss the deer image before stamping.

Pigment inks work really well for this technique because the ink is sticky and thick and darker colors show off the kissed image best.

Another card with a slightly different technique:

For this card, I stamped G1733 in ColorBox Chestnut Roan Chalk ink on the white die cut.  I then used the same ink to cover PoppyStamp 255G Tiled Background.  I took the uninked clean E1772 Graeful Deer and kissed the Tiled Backround which transferred the pattern onto the deer which I then stamped on top of the Journey Collage.  How cool is that!  I used a brush dauber to add more of the Chestnut Roan chalk ink around the edges of the die cut before adhering the second one to the back to finish the card.

There are so many more techniques that we practiced and I'm excited to try them with not only E1772 Graceful Deer but also D1784 Classic Ornament Shadow.  Maybe I'll try using the cat on B1798 Cat and Moon or even E1801 Haunted Mansion.  I've got the kissing bug!!!

Happy Stamping!
